I'm a Canadian artist working in South Korea. I show my works both here and in Canada. I usually work under different pseudonyms depending on the body and style of work. Most of my works incorporate small drawings and text, creating visuals diaries.

Susan Knaap

Susan Knaap is a New Zealand artist whose artistic career has spanned over two decades. During that time her art has traversed the styles of realism, impressionism, expressionism and abstraction. It is the latter which she now focuses on and through which she experiences the greatest amount of creative freedom.

“The process of becoming an artist has taught me how important it is to create work that reflects who I am so that I can move beyond mere craftsmanship and share something of myself in what I do. I find that abstraction – where I am able to focus purely on colour, shapes and mark-making – allows me to do that more readily.

While I don’t set out to paint to a specific brief, the concepts I gravitate to inevitably make their presence felt both in the process of painting and in the finished work – in particular, the broad, intangible themes that underlie life itself – concepts of time and timelessness, concealment and revelation, mystery and transformation, order and chaos.”
Susan’s paintings are lush, multi-layered works rendered in multiple mediums. Her approach is largely intuitive, where the process of painting itself dictates the painting’s direction. Susan’s artwork is defined by a distinctive combination of quiet, pared down areas of colour juxtaposed with fresh, vibrant mark making.

Abstracts by Norman Pirollo

Award winning artist Norman Pirollo discovered a passion for creativity at an early age. Having pursued a career in the IT industry after studying Computer Science, he has since returned to his passion of creating unique abstract art. 

He is primarily self-taught in both the fine arts and decorative arts. Norman creates abstract art through macro photography He accomplishes this through a process he developed to create abstract compositions. The compositions are meticulously painted to depict an abstract scene and include important elements such as form, contrasting colors, light and curves. Rich vivid colors, curves and intriguing compositions are featured in this abstract work. 

The artwork is then photographed at high resolution and transferred to quality art papers or canvas. Norman has exhibited his art at many art venues in the past few years, both local and international, and his work has been featured in various international magazines. 

As well, he has recently been selected as a finalist for the prestigious NICHE Awards and a finalist for the Art Trends Artist of the Year Award. Norman currently resides and operates his studio in a country setting in Ottawa, Ontario.

Ursula E. Rettich - Sea to Canvas

Growing up on the small Island of Sylt, hence the studio name "SEA TO CANVAS", a remote place in the German North Sea. It was the nature, the freedom and the mystery of this place what influenced and inspired me: frequently my live and certainly my paintings.

Over time I painted in different styles always pushing forward to get my own character onto every canvas and of course the contents - depending on what live presented to me but I always came back to a free fast brushstroke. This suited me best.

My art is abstract because feelings, dreams, and illusions do not have forms or boundaries. There is nothing more exciting than an empty canvas and the need to use my brush- sponge- pallet knife- etc. to fill it with colors.

I like to give color a certain independence and liberty in my work. I see a picture, say – a landscape – I connect it with my inner emotional space to establish color and shape in my mind but the base of my vision is still the landscape.

What I commit to canvas is an effort to capture both the external picture and my internal response through colour and shape.

Welcome to my World.

My passion for drawings was evident very early in my teens, after I discovered the smell of oil paintings at the age of 7 years old in the Studio-school of painting of my uncle ( Academia Villarruel ) in Leon ( Spain ).

I received my formation from 1953-1963.

The description of my Art is at once Poetic, Symbolic and Surreal. But it will be more simple to be called Andres Mangas.

A longer description of my work:
My work is a mixture of Realism and Surrealism, I am inspired by the Old Masters and by my idol Salvador Dali. The psychedelic and surreal is on most of my paintings and titles, the poetic, and the Symbolism complete the mixture.

My technique requires a high degree of organization and respect for the drying time. After the preparation of a fondation, I apply the color by transparencies ( glazes ) using pure colors. a technique that can be applied using polymerized linseed oil and resin ( Venice turpentine, and Copal ).

Transparencies, innumerable glazes, rich in detail in a smooth bill, united and polished with a planned improvisation and plurality of meanings seeking:
The Perfection of the Form, Color and Composition.

Kerrie Warren Abstract Expressionist Action Painter

My aim as an Action Painter is to bypass self-censoring thought and ‘feel’ my way through the creative process. Initially it’s about letting go of having a preconceived idea and simply making a physical and emotional connection with the raw materials as I move, dribble, splatter and throw.
Trusting in the process itself, I work freely in the moment ‘on the floor’ as mark follows mark in a visual domino, creating a series of unplanned scenarios that tantalize my senses from the surface whilst being recorded in the foundational layers of the painting below. 
I’m intrigued and lured in by the organic patterns of random occurrence, the textures and colours that intertwine, communicate and respond with each other… inspiring me to build upon this free flowing composition as a visual narrative forms. 
At this stage instinct is heightened and becomes paramount as I navigate my way around the canvas which has fast become a platform for a new adventure, incessantly calling and drawing me back to the studio.
The focus becomes more and more intense; emotionally and physically consuming me until the painting resonates with a story of its own, finally releasing me from the process.
Such energetic compositions and broad gestures work best on a large scale where they become an interactive visual playground rather than a painting on a wall.

HL c'est Ludovic, 32 ans, j'ai toujours eu une attirance pour le dessin. Artiste autodidacte, je n'ai jamais pris de cours de dessin et fonctionne à l'instinct. Je m'intéresse particulièrement à l'art contemporain, l'art de rue, graffitis, street art,... Le monde du tatouage, novateur m'attire et m'inspire beaucoup également. J'essaye de tendre vers de l'hyper-réalisme et graphisme, que ce soit en noir et blanc ou en couleurs. Je dessine pour le moment aussi bien pastels secs, fusains, graphites, stylos, feutres et, à venir, la peinture.Je propose notamment des portraits de personnes, portraits animaliers et autres selon l'inspiration.

I create elegant bespoke metal wall pieces for private, corporate and public spaces. 

The beautifully finished, rich metallic and enamel surfaces are created in response to diverse subject matter, including architecture, the rural landscape, and maps.

Working closely with my clients, each response to a commission brief involves taking photographs, and making drawings, prints and collages on paper. This imagery is combined, manipulated and then etched in to metal, or applied to enamel. Layers of processes, including electroplating and chemical patination, are used in innovative sequences, to create unique artworks.

Macro photography is a true expression of how I see things. I see the tiny minuscule details and want to show the world. Usually those drops are only a couple of millimeters in size. The natural world is constantly shifting and changing with the seasons, and as such my work is the same. In the spring my images are bright and colorful. In the winter they are black and white and sepia.

Rua Pick - Artist

Rua Pick was born on Moturua Island in 1968. Rua was named by Rongo and Te Aue Hakaraia, very close family friends. He grew up with an artistic family in the Bay of Islands. His Father a potter, his Mother and Sister both painters, the family was always surrounded by art and artists. During 1983 & 1984, Rua was inspired by the tutorage of Selwyn Wilson who taught him kowhaiwhai and encouraged him to pursue his creative style, empowering and enabling him to follow his artistic path.

Ruas early influences were Goya and Dali. After leaving school Rua studied oil painting techniques from books focusing on 17th Century Dutch Painters. He traveled to Europe in 1988. The Prado and Dali Theatre Museums were pivotal experiences on his creative journey. On returning to New Zealand with his mind completely saturated with art, Rua moved to Raglan and developed his style in the genres of Social Surrealism, Mysticism, and Symbolism. 

In 1992, Rua completed a year at the Canterbury School of Fine Arts. He fell in love with the South Island, its deep mystery permeating the land and its people. Rua work has followed a personal inner journey on the river of the mind. This has dealt with the process of separation, vulnerability, empowerment, and integration. From 1995 -2011 Rua set up a Studio / Gallery called Toko Mata (The Visionary Post) in central Christchurch, this was very creative, innovative & prolific period in his art making. From 2000 to the present Rua developed shaped wooden formats artworks, inspired by the natural world to paint on, with layered mixed media under painting, many were reproduced in the book Whispers of Waitaha in 2006. From his new studio Puawananga (Flower of Knowledge) , 2011- to the present Rua has taken up Whakairo ~wood carving, mostly creating Taonga Puoro (traditional sound instruments) along side his usual painting activities. He also been exploring other mediums such ceramics. Throughout Rua life Maori symbology has asserted itself strongly in his work. Polynesian influences surrounded Rua throughout his life and he has a strong affinity with the Land and the Sea. Rua Paintings reflect the stories/narratives of the experiences of Rangi, Papatuanuku and their children over the ages.

Concrete images narrate Rua views and comments to a broad audience. Through his art he honours the timelessness of Ancient histories and mythologies of this land and its peoples. Rua is committed to discussing the world with others through his art. In this process he swings from the dark/Po to the light/Ma, taking inspiration from both worlds.
